FANGIRL by RAINBOW ROWELL

Rating:

Blurb Summary:

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone. For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

I'm not usually keen on contemporary books like this but everyone was buzzing about it, so I had to pick it up. It didn't disappoint but it didn't live up to all my expectations hence the '4 stars'. Cath the main character was the typical fangirl and was an accurate representation though she was getting very annoying come the middle of the book! I liked there wasn't too much romance that it overrode the storyline, it was very even paced. Another I wasn't a fan of was the little snippets of fanfiction, I ended up skipping them all completely. I think for a book that was written in third person it was very easy to be engrossed into the story itself and to have a clear voice for Cath. Overall I liked the book and I cannot wait to pick up another book by Rainbow Rowell.

Fiery Trap by Mike Mauthor

Rating:

Blurb Summary:

Rachel is now in college, she has found love and her life as a college student is typical till someone emerged to turn it upside down. Someone is leaving clues to her past or is she just imagining it? Rachel had gone through a roller coaster of terror in the Hausefalle's house, now the terror shadows her every step in the world. Fiery Trap is the sequel to House Trap.

This book was much quicker to get into than 'House Trap' and to be honest I preferred the storyline. I liked all the mysteries and unanswered questions thought out the whole book. There were lots of tense parts and I had fun theorising who was stalking Rachel. Let me say in the end I suspected everyone of stalking her as every character was quite shady especially Alyssa, who I initially suspected in the first place. I like how everything unravelled and how Rachel still stayed as strong and independent as she was in the first book. Overall great ending and great book.

House Trap by Mike Mauthor

Rating:

Blurb Summary:

Rachel Evans is a sixteen year old overachiever who would take nothing less than to achieve her goal of getting into Dartmouth College. But Rachel’s life would never be the same once she stepped into the house of Alicia Hausefalle, the most popular girl in Wedds High School. Rachel was there to tutor her. She never expected to meet two strangers who were ready to end her life.

I don't what I expected from this book but it wasn't this. I liked how the prologue was set in the past. The whole Nicholas twist was very predictable though. The story was a bit slow until we got to Alicia's house. I liked how strong and independent that main character Rachel was, Nathan was also another favourite of mine. This book has freaked me out as my house has a lock-down system and I finished this in the wee hours of the morning. I loved how brutal Scott was and Jay's secret was interesting. Overall I liked how the book ended and my need for a sequel was satisfied. I literally jumped up and down when I found out about the sequel 'Fiery Trap' and after reading the preview I need to know what happens! I can safely say I am a fan of Mike Mauthor's work!

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

Rating:

Blurb Summary:

One choice will define you.

What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

I have to say I have mixed feelings about the last book in the 'Divergent' series. It wasn't as fast paced as the other two but it still had enough action to satisfy me. The two point of views (Tris and Tobias) was very confusing and I found myself being too engrossed in the story to look at the name by the start of the chapter and I ended being very confused as to why this character was saying something that wasn't like them.
I'm not ashamed to say I cried at the whole last quarter of the book. Veronica Roth's writing style is able to convey enough emotion to leave me mourning for days. Don't expect this book to be a jolly ride.
Ive heard mixed opinions on 'Allegiant' but I have to say I did enjoy it, even though there were many points where I wanted to put it down. So in my opinion great ending to a brilliant series. Well done Veronica Roth.
